Tornado Recovery

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has declared a state of emergency in 11 Ohio counties following last week’s devastating tornados. In addition, the Ohio National Guard has been activated to help clean up debris in Logan County, one of the hardest hit areas, where three people were killed by the storms. At this time, Logan County officials are asking that you not self-deploy to the area as many roads are still littered with debris.

WAYS YOU CAN HELP:

1. PRAY – Prayers are needed for all those who lost homes and vehicles, or whose property was damaged. We especially pray for the families of those who lost their lives during the storms.
2. GIVE – Donations to the West Ohio Disaster Response fund allow us to be ready to provide assistance wherever and whenever it is needed. There are two ways to give:

• Online through the West Ohio website.
• By mailing a check to West Ohio Conference, 32 Wesley Blvd, Worthington OH 43085, with “West Ohio Disaster Response” in the Memo line

      3. OPPORTUNITES TO SERVE-

• Last week, several communities in Logan County, OH, were devastated by tornados. Though not damaged by the storm, Christ UMC in Lakeview is just blocks away from some of the hardest hit areas. This small church averages just 10 in worship each Sunday, but led by Student Pastor Abigail Adams, Christ UMC has opened its doors as a donation center. Now full of donated items, Pastor Abby needs volunteers to come every day to sort donations, oversee supplies, and listen to survivors as they come to pick up needed items. No special skills are required – just a loving heart and a listening ear.

• Starting this Thursday, volunteers are needed on weekdays and Saturdays, 9am-1pm and 1-5pm, to keep the center open and attend to whatever needs arise. You may also sign up to bring lunch to the volunteers on any day the donation center is open. The sign-up link for the next two weeks is below.
